Upsurge In Kidnapping Incidents In Kwara South, Seven Suspects Arrested

Kwara State Police Command has expressed concern over an apparent upsurge in cases of suspected kidnapping incidents in some parts of Kwara South.

According to the police, this is especially true in Ora, Oke-Ode, and other areas in Ifelodun Local Government Area. The police, after conducting investigations, discovered that the incidents were connected and consequently formed a powerful team comprising men from different units to tackle the problem.

The team, comprising the Counter Terrorism Unit, Anti-Robbery, Anti-Kidnapping, Anti-Cultism, Anti-Nacotic, Explosive Ordinance Department, Police Mobile Force and Police Medical, was tasked with combing the bushes and forests in the identified areas, arresting criminals, recovering arms and ammunition, rescuing victims, and clearing the bushes of criminal elements.

The operation began on November 1, 2023, and has seen significant progress. Seven suspects, Umaru Mohammodu a.k.a. Yellow 'M', Mohammodu Mohammodu a.k.a. Kerimi 'M', Garuba Abubakar 'M', Iliasu Usman 'M', Ibraheem Abubakar 'M', Usman Haruna 'M', and Umaru Bello 'M' (the informant), have been arrested. During the search of the hideout, a cash sum of #1,736,000.00 was also recovered.

The command has expressed its commitment to rescuing all victims sooner than expected and to continue its unyielding pressure on the criminals until they leave Kwara State. The seven suspects arrested in the operation have been arraigned in court and are currently remanded in prison custody. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of the recent incident.

The police once again encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities in the state, promising to take swift action to ensure the safety of residents.
