Several Decades Later, Tanke, Basin, And Other Areas To Enjoy Steady Power Supply As Budo-Osho Substation Launches Thursday

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will on Thursday commission the Budo-Osho substation project, thus putting an end to several years of erratic power supply suffered by residents of Tanke, Basin and other areas of Ilorin, Kwara state.

This newspaper gathered that the launch will take place at the site of the injection station along Judges Quarters in Ilorin, according to a notice released to the public on Wednesday.

“We are pleased to extend our warmest greetings to you on behalf of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the power supply infrastructure in our service areas, we are excited to announce the upcoming commissioning of the Budo Osho 1 x 15MVA, 33/11kV Injection Substation, which will play a pivotal role in ensuring reliable electricity supply to the following communities: Ebudo-Esho, F Division, Tanke, Bubu, Oke-Odo, and the Basin,” the invitation letter signed by the company’s head of corporate service, Angela Olanrewaju, read.

The commissioning, this paper learnt, will be done in the presence of the Kwara state Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, other dignitaries and top-ranking members of IBEDC.

Our correspondent learnt that the affected areas have been battling incessant power supply over the years owing to delays in the completion of substation injection projects.

Ilorin, the Kwara State capital has over 10 injection substations, some of which are either operating suboptimally or abandoned.

It would be recalled that the Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Senator Saliu Mustapha has intervened using personal funds on some of the affected substations, including Harmony Substation, Kulende, Oko-Olowo Substation in Ilorin South LGA, among others.

In December 2022, the Kwara Senator had intervened on the Injection Substation at Harmony Estate, Kulende on the request of the benefiting community, providing a multimillion naira donation to expedite the completion of the project.

In the same vein, Mustapha had intervened on the successful completion and installation of the long abandoned Oko-Olowo Substation. Mustapha had made the donation after communities in Ogidi, Oloje, Abayawo, among others via an SOS requested for the Senator's intervention.
