Native Doctor Remanded For Alleged Killing Of Pregnant Woman In Kwara

In a recent development, a native doctor based in Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara State, has been arraigned and remanded by a Magistrate Court for his alleged involvement in the killing of a pregnant woman. The accused native doctor, identified as Kolawole Idowu, claimed to be a medical doctor. Also remanded was Ibrahim Taiwo, the deceased woman's husband.

According to reports from the Kwara State Police Command, the incident unfolded when a woman named Yusuf Ajarat invited the native doctor to determine the delivery date of the deceased, Bilikis Ayinde. However, it is alleged that the native doctor administered an injection of oxytocin ergometrine to the pregnant woman, which ultimately resulted in her untimely death.

During the court proceedings presided over by Magistrate Adenike Abioye, the accused native doctor and the deceased woman's husband were ordered to be remanded in custody, pending further investigations. However, Yusuf Ajarat, who invited the native doctor, was granted bail due to her status as a nursing mother.

Counsel to the defendant, Toyin Onaolapo, while speaking after the court proceedings, said that the court could not grant his client bail because of the nature of the alleged offences.

The case has been adjourned to July 27, 2023, for further proceedings.
