Kwara Ex-lawmaker's Planned Defection from SDP Rejected by APC

An ex-lawmaker in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Saheed Popoola, who recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has been denied re-entry into the APC by his ward in Offa Local Government Area. The decision was made at a stakeholders' meeting held at Ile Ola-Oke Hall in Offa.

During the meeting, the ward stakeholders made it clear that Saheed Popoola and his followers were not welcome in Ojomu Central 'B' ward of the APC. They emphasized that there was no space for him and urged him to stay away to avoid any conflicts within the party.

This rejection came after Popoola sent a letter seeking re-absorption into the APC following his defeat in the recent general election for a seat in the National Assembly. The ward stakeholders reminded him of his previous radio programs that criticized Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, demanding that he rectify the damage caused to the party's image and the reputation of the governor.

Furthermore, the stakeholders highlighted Popoola's alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 elections, instructing his SDP followers to work against Governor Abdulrazaq. They stated that if necessary, Popoola could join the APC in 2026 or 2027.

The ward stakeholders also urged Popoola to provide an account of his performance during his tenure as a member of the state House of Assembly representing Ojomu/Balogun Constituency in Offa local government.

The letter rejecting Popoola's return to the APC was signed by 51 stakeholders in the ward.
