Hon. Omar Bio Praises God And Thanks Constituents As NASS Holds Valedictory Session Today
...bowed out in a worthy sense of fulfilment.
As the 9th National Assembly which was inaugurated on Tuesday, June 11th, 2019, holds valedictory session today, Wednesday, June 7th, 2023, the lawmaker representing the good people of Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency of Kwara State at the Green Chamber, Hon. Mohammed Omar Bio, fcpa, iion, has reflected on his journey to the National Assembly in the last 4 years, giving all the glories to God Almighty for the gift of life and thanks his constituents for the trust and confidence as well as their unfliching support despite his human error.
Addressing newsmen at the end of the valedictory session earlier today, the lawmaker said, "It has been four (4) solid years of selfless and meritorious service to the constituents of Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency, Nigerians and humanity as a whole. I am grateful to God Almighty in whose grace and compassion I am alive and have come this far. I am also very thankful to the good people of Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency for entrusting me with the mandate and confidence to represent them in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly as a federal lawmaker," Hon. Bio said.
“As the House hold valedictory session today, Wednesday, 7th June, 2023, I feel fulfilled and satisfied. I feel proud as a first term representative of the people. Mine was not about occupying the office and bearing the name or title of a Honourable, but service and service to the people and society. And that was exactly what I did during this first term. Our second term, God's willing, shall be continuity of the good things we have done and improvements on the setbacks," he added.
Indeed, it is a moment of reflection for the Ilesha-Baruba born lawmaker who exerted his best in the civil service where he spent a better chunk of his service years working as a civil servant on different responsibilities and portfolios at different times and places of human endeavour from where he amassed administrative skills and leadership experience to turn things around.
No doubt, his election into the National Assembly by the electorates of Baruten and Kaiama in 2019 was a game-changer as the lawmaker brought so much legislative transparency, vibrancy and frequent contact/feedback to the constituency with a view towards changing the narratives for optimal service delivery to the people.
The 5-star lawmaker has maintained yearly stewardship of his legislative strides in the Green Chamber since he was inaugurated in 2019 because, according to him, he is in National Assembly in trust for thousands of his constituents.
In few days to come, precisely Thursday, June 8th, 2023, he will bow out of office by the virtue of the dissolution of the 9th Assembly to birth (inaugurate) the 10th Assembly. What is however remarkable in the case of Hon. Omar Bio is that he is leaving behind a legacy of many firsts for which he will be remembered for.
His greatest asset is his accessibility, administrative skills and leadership experience, which traverse from his civil service sojourn where he served for the greater years of his working age.
Abin Bio, as he is fondly called, is known for making the very best in whatever he sets his eye to accomplish; a testimony clearly seen in his catalogue of landmarks in the civil service as Accountant, Internal Auditor, Treasurer, Head of Section Finance and Supply and retired as Chief Accountant with Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
In active politics, he has held the position of an elected Council Chairman of the Baruten Local Government Area between 2013 - 2016 where he brought discipline, accessibility, transparency and improvement in the IGR. He raised the IGR from #650,000.00 per month to between #3,500,000.00 - #5,000,000.00 per month. His records are there.
Under him, as the representative of the people and for the first, Kaiama has been accorded its rightful recognition as the constituency's headquarters with a befitting and properly staffed constituency office located along Tenebo Road in Kaiama, Kaiama LGA for effective representation and bridging communication gap.
Understanding the importance of partnership with government and non governmental agencies in order to drive home leadership, skills and vocational trainings and empowerment for his constituents, Hon. Bio, through several partnerships with various organisations and agencies, has made huge impact in human capital development by facilitating capacity building trainings for women and youths on vocational and skills development and cash/tools empowerment. He has also facilitated leadership trainings for teachers, principals, head teachers, proprietors, etc of both private and public schools in Baruten and Kaiama LGAs, respectively.
There was entrepreneurship training on cassava production and processing as well as catering, fashion design, leather works, and GSM repairs and empowerment for youths and women. In his capacity as a first term lawmaker, he has facilitated federal employments for a reasonable number of his constituents. The lawmaker also worked hard to ensure that some tangible projects for his constituency are captured in the 2023 budget, hoping that before the end of of the year, those projects would be executed according to funding. He has sacrificed his personal gains, just to ensure he served the people satisfactorily.
I wish I can list out his legislative strides here but this space cannot contain the catalogue of his achievements. As the 9th Assembly winds down, it is important to note that Hon. Abin Bio has splendidly written his name in the constituency’s story of honour with his first term outstanding performance. For these, posterity will be kind to him.
End.
Seko Jibril Gure,
Legislative Aide on Communications and Public Affairs.
