Gobir Mourns The Death Of Prof. Oyawoye, First African Geology Professor
Alhaji Waziri Yakubu Gobir, has expressed his condolences to the Offa community on the passing of Prof. Jimoh Mosobalaje Oyawoye, the first professor of Geology in Africa. In a statement issued on Tuesday Alhaji Gobir described Prof. Oyawoye's death as a colossal loss not only to the Offa community but to the entire nation.
Prof. Oyawoye was a distinguished academic and geologist who made significant contributions to the study of the geology of Nigeria and Africa as a whole. He was a one time Chairman of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and a recipient of numerous national and international awards for his contributions to the field of geology.
Alhaji Gobir expressed his deep sadness at the passing of Prof. Oyawoye, whom he described as a "great son of Offa and a true patriot." He noted that Prof. Oyawoye's legacy would continue to inspire future generations of geologists and academics in Nigeria and beyond.
"Prof. Oyawoye was widely respected and admired for his contributions to the development of his community and the nation as a whole. He is a true role model and a source of inspiration for young people in Nigeria."
Alhaji Gobir offered his prayers for the soul of the departed and for his loved ones to have the strength to cope with the irreparable loss.
