Kwara Central 2023: NNPP Accepts Defeat, Congratulates Saliu Mustapha
The Kwara state chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has congratulated the Kwara Central Senator-elect, Mallam Saliu Mustapha, over his victory at the February 25 election.
This was contained in a congratulatory letter dated April 6, which was signed by the state Chairman, AbdulRasaq AbdulSalam and chairmen in Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Ilorin South and Asa local government areas.
"On behalf of the executive and members of the Kwara State chapter of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), we extend our warmest congratulations to you on your victory at February 25th National Assembly elections," the letter partly read.
The party executives stated that Mustapha's efforts, hard work and commitment all through the electioneering period did not go unnoticed.
"It's our firm conviction that only God gives power to whoever He wishes, and He has, in His wisdom, given you victory. In strict obedience to the wills of God, therefore, we will like to place it in the records that we have fully accepted the outcomes of the election as the will of the majority of the people of Kwara Central Senatorial District, and have therefore resolved not to challenge the outcome of the election at the court or anywhere else for that matter."
The party officials, however, pledged the support of his party for the Senator-elect, reposing trust and confidence in him.
"As you prepare to take your seat in the hallowed chamber of our country's legislature, we would like to reiterate our belief in your programmes and ideologies, and to pledge our support towards ensuring you have a successful tenure."
It would be recalled that Mallam Saliu Mustapha of the All Progressives Congress candidate was declared winner of the Kwara Central Senatorial election after polling 109,823 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had since presented him with a Certificate of Return.
His closest rival, Bolaji Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 69,202 votes while Dr Ridwan Apaokagi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) got 13193 votes.
