I Will Never Congratulate Saliu Mustapha – Bolaji Abdullahi

Former Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, has vowed not to congratulate Saliu Mustapha, the winner of the Kwara Central Senatorial election.

Abdullahi, who also contested the seat under the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), came second in the poll held in February.

According to the official results, Mustapha of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 109,823 while his closest opponent, Abdullahi, scored 69,148 votes.

Mustapha had since been presented with the certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

It should be noted that other top candidates including the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have congratulated the Senator-elect.

However, Abdullahi, in a recent interview with The Sun, said he was not going to congratulate Mustapha despite being declared winner.

According to him, the APC candidate stole the mandate from him but he would not challenge the victory in court.

You asked if I have congratulated him, I will say no, I didn’t. I don’t think I should because I didn’t think he won the election. “In any case, he doesn’t need my congratulations. So, I will not give it to him.”

When asked why he refused to challenge Mustapha’s victory in court, Abdullahi said; “I decided against going to court because I come from a community of Muslims and I really don’t think there is merit. I don’t think there is a need to go to court because when things like this happen, as a Muslim, you take it that it is the way God wants it.”

He further said that If God wanted him to be Senator, he wouldn’t need to get it through the court.
