Why I Employed Only One Kwara Indigene As Sports Minister- Bolaji Abdullahi

By Adedayo Said

The Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the Kwara Central Senatorial election, Bolaji Abdullahi, has reacted to insinuations that he did not employ Kwara indigene while serving as Sports minister.

Abdullahi, who was appointed as a minister of youths and sports by the President Goodluck Jonathan-led government, said his Special Assistant was from Ilorin.

Abdullahi stated in his recent letter to his opponent in the senatorial race, All Progressives Congress' Saliu Mustapha.

Recall that the two candidates have engaged in brickbats and media exchanges.

In Mustapha's letter, he accused the former minister of employing people from other states, neglecting eminently qualified Kwarans.

However, Abdullahi, in his response, said it was not his fault that he could only facilitate the employment of just one Kwara indigene.

"Well, how would you know? The policy of the Federal Government at the time was that ministers were allowed only one Special Assistant and one Personal Assistant; this was meant to discourage a
situation where personal aides take over the job of civil servants."

"My only SA was from Ilorin, his name is Suleiman Saka and my PA was Salmon Babatunde Salmon. All those others from other states were seconded to my office on request by international donor agencies who were willing to support the work I was doing," he further stated.
