By Adedayo Said

The YPP House of Reps Candidate for the Irepodun/Isin/Ekiti/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency Charles Olufemi Folayan has promised that the various communities in his constituency would receive deserving attention and development, when elected to the House of Representatives in 2023.

Charles Folayan disclosed this during the week at a consultation meeting with the Chairman of the Omu-Aran Development Association Gen. Olayemi Lasisi Abidoye (Rtrd). He noted that Omu-Aran is an historical community pivotal to the entire constituency, but has not received required priority from past political office holders.

“It’s obvious that some past elected officials from our constituency are not aware of what Omu-Aran really needs to attract the required development to the community and the entire constituency. They didn’t prioritize strategic projects that can facilitate rapid community development despite how strategic it is to every part of our constituency.

Asoju Odo described as unfortunate, some past incidents in the community which has drastically affected the commercial activities and the development of the entire constituency, which he feels should have been handled better.

“It’s unfortunate that some robbery incidents of major commercial establishments in Omu-Aran in the past have affected the commercial activities of the community and the constituency in general. I expected that our elected officials would have prioritized more on the issue of security, social infrastructures and the rehabilitation of Kabba-Omu-Aran -Ilorin road especially because it’s critical to the growth of the public and private establishments in our constituency.

The YPP candidate who presented his manifesto document to the Chairman of EDA said, he is aware that community development associations and community youth organizations plays important role to community development and have their communities vision and development plans. He noted that it’s already in his manifesto to constitute them as constituency committees on projects design and implementation.

“Here is a copy of my manifesto, I have some development plans in this document which touches all communities in our constituency. I’m also aware that community development associations and community youth organizations plays major role in their community development and most already have vision and plans of what their communities are looking forward to. I have captured this in my manifesto to make them the constituency committee on project design and implementations.

Charles Olufemi Folayan who is a Prince of Ekan-Meje in Oke-Ero Local Government added that though three (3) sons of Omu-Aran had been elected to the National Assembly between 1999 to date. However, he said the community development can not be attracted based on indigenous affiliation but by the vision, capacity and character of the representative of the people who he said must also be free from undue influence of political godfathers.

The former legislative and presidential aide is confident that based on his over 10 years experience in development work and his party ideology of “service” to the people, he understands the strategic importance of the community to the development of the entire constituency better and would prioritize the development of all communities above his personal needs.

In his response, Gen. Abidoye salutes the courage of Asoju Odo. He commended him for taking his time to craft out his plans ahead of time which he said gives opportunity for performances to be measured. He expressed optimism in having a better representation with young and vibrant person like him in office.

“I salute your courage my brother, I commend you for crafting out your plans for performance measure. I believe that young and vibrant people would do better in leadership, I’m an advocate of youth even within our community association and I firmly believe in it.
