AbdulRazaq Knocks Ex-Govs Saraki, Ahmed Over Mismanagement Of UBEC Funds

By Adedayo Said

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State on Sunday took a swipe at the immediate past Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki and members of the opposition PDP in the state over the alleged embezzlement of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) funds.

The governor, during the inauguration of the campaign council of APC senatorial candidate for Kwara Central, Malam Saliu Mustapha in Ilorin, particularly accused former Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed of zero investment in the primary education sector.

According to him, “I went to Abuja to ask UBEC why Kwara was blacklisted for seven years and was told the funds have been embezzled.

“But when I enquired why UBEC did not prosecute them, they said their leader (Saraki) was the Senate President and they would have a problem defending and getting their budget approved if they had taken such action,” the governor said.

He said his administration had been clearing the mess inherited from the misgovernance of the past, which had slowed him down on projects.

But the CPS former governor Ahmed, Wahab Oba, while speaking with Daily Trust said the governor “is a confused person.”

“If you have any infraction against us, then go to court. The UBEC counterpart fund was a choice between payment of workers’ salaries and counterpart fund and as a responsible governor, Ahmed chose the former because of the financial situation then.

“But when the money came to pay for it during the twilight of our administration, the governor blocked it through the EFCC,” he added.
