2023 Reps: I’m The David In This Race” Asoju Odo Declares, Vows To Stop Misrepresentation And Abuse Of Office
By Adedayo Said
The Young Progressives Party, YPP, House of Reps Candidate for Irepodun/Isin/Ekiti/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency Charles Olufemi Folayan (Asoju Odo) has promised the people of his constituency that he would give proper representation and prioritize the people’s need when elected in the 2023.
Speaking at a meeting with the leadership of Christian Enlightenment Initiatives CEI in Oro, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State yesterday, Asoju Odo said the slow pace of economic development which compounded the high level of poverty in the constituency is as a result of misrepresentation and abuse of office by some leaders.
The former legislative aide said the opportunity available to a member of the house or representatives is enough to open up economic development opportunities for the constituency that can prosper thousands of people and develop communities, if properly harnessed.
“The problem our constituency has been facing is misrepresentation, misplaced priorities and abuse of office. I have served in the National Assembly for four years as a legislative aide and I know a lot of opportunities available that can prosper many of our constituents and develop our constituency rapidly, if well tapped.
“It’s saddening that most of the mansions across communities here are empty and wasting away because our leaders have no proper idea to develop economic activities that would bring the communities alive, rather they are used to the menial empowerment strategies that can not give anyone a sustainable empowerment.
Asoju Odo also said that the misrepresentation and leadership failure does not left out any individual who is any position to speak for the masses but rather turned to praise singer of politicians because of personal gains.
“The bad situation in our constituency today was aggravated by leadership failure at different levels. The people are suffering because many people they have chosen as leaders to speak for them have been incapacitated by some powers and others by godfathers. Many are singing praises of failed politicians today because of their personal gains. That is unfair and ungodly. God want leaders to speak the truth to and for their subjects and not to take advantage of the privilege they have over them.
“I joined politics through activism, I have consistently speak for the people in every position I found myself either as a student leader, youth leader, union leader and as appointee of government. I’m known for that, it’s a virtue I tapped from my late father who stood firm for his people till the end of his life.
“I’m the David in this race, just like in the Bible. I’m a young man contesting to speak and fight for the downtrodden. I’m in this race not because one godfather want me or because I have the money to bribe my way into power but because I believe that God who empowered David to defeat Goliath would support me to win this election. He would rise for me to liberate the people from the conspiracy of political elites and bourgeoisie.
At the end of the meeting, Asoju Odo received prayers from the men of God led by Pastor S O Salako of the Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG.
