AbdulRazaq's Wife Flags Off Rotavirus Vaccine In Kwara

The First Lady of Kwara State and Founder Ajike People Support Center, Ambassador Dr Olufolake Abdulrazaq on Monday 29th of August flagged off the introduction of Rotavirus vaccine into the routine immunization schedule in kwara State.

Ambassador Abdulrazaq during the flag off held in ilorin said the introduction of the vaccine stands to put an end to diarrhea caused by Rotavirus and mortality of children there from.

The First Lady stressed that the launching of the Rotavirus vaccine into the state's routine immunization schedule is a major milestone in the push to protect Kwara children against vaccine - preventable diseases.

She however enjoined parents and care givers to avail their children and ward the opportunity the launch of the vaccine presents by bringing them out to get vaccinated while commending the State Government for the huge investments in ensuring that kwarans enjoy the best of health care.

On his part the Commissioner for Health, Doctor Raji Rasaq, applauded the First-lady for her support of the State’s health initiatives adding that globally, rotavirus infects nearly every child under five years, saying that the vaccine would protect Kwara children against preventable diseases.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Communication, Mr Bode Towoju enumerated numerous achievement of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, especially on public health interventions, enjoined parents to make use of opportunity.

Earlier, The Executive Secretary, Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Nusirat Elelu in her address, stated that the Rotavirus vaccine is "part of the comprehensive strategy to control dehydrating diarrhea among children.

According to her, introducing Rotavirus vaccine will reduce illness and death from diarrhea diseases by about 40%, saving more lives of children under five years of age.

She also urged all mothers and caregivers to take their children to the nearest health facilities to get their children immunized.

Ambassador Dr. Abdulrazaq then started the immunization of the children present.
