Hon. Omar Bio Sympathize The Victims Of Chikanda Flood, Pledges Adequates Legislative Support

The Dan Madamin Ilesha-Baruba and lawmaker representing Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, Hon. Mohammed Omar Bio, fcpa, iion, has sympathised with the victims of the Chikanda flood, which occurred on Friday, August 16th, 2022 rendering many families homeless and destroying countless farmlands (crops) as well as affecting the major border bridge linking the Republic of Benin and Nigeria. 

The lawmaker, who was on an assessment vist to the border community and particularly the flood-affected bridge and to commiserate with the victims, assured them of his legislative efforts to draw the federal government's attention through a motion in the floor of the House to mandate NEMA and other relevant agencies in providing adequate relief support to the victims.

Hon. Omar Bio, speaking at the palace of the Community Head of Chikanda, Suno-Suuru, expressed sympathy to the entire community and particularly the victims of the flood disaster.

Hon. Bio pledged that he would, through his legislative efforts, do everything possible to ensure that the FGN provides the needed support for the victims and appeal for the construction of a much better and longer border bridge linking the two countries.

The Community Head of Chikanda, Suno Suuru, appreciated the lawmaker for the sympathy visit and solicited for a quick and adequate intervention of government's support (relief) to the victims.

Also speaking on behalf of the Community, Mallam Umar Audu explained that the people of the community were still counting their losses following the heavy downpour which, according to him, _"rendered many families homeless, destroyed farms and poses a threat of total collapse to the only and main bridge linking Nigeria 🇳🇬 and the Republic of Benin 🇧🇯 in this axis."

In a similar mood, the lawmaker had paid a condolence visit to Sinatoko over the death of the chief of the village, Sinatokorugi, and his eldest son within the interval of 7 days.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker has earlier had a stop-over at Yashikira while returning from Chikanda to grace the annual Yanki Deema's Cultural Event holding at the Palace of the Emir of Yashikira, HRH (Dr.) Umar Usman Sariki, Sabi II, where he paid royal homage to the Emir and provided cash support to the organiser(s) of the event. The appearance of the lawmaker and his entourage added a colourful touch to the event.

Yanrin Kubano community was the lawmaker's last port of call to also sympathise with the community over the demise of Sina-Yannigi, Alh. Ibrahim Sabi.

In the entourage were the TIC Chairman, Hon. Abdulrasheed Ibrahim Lafia, the Kwara State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Development, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Kora Sabi and the former KWHA member, Hon. Adamu Sabi Ibrahim.

Other notable individuals in the entourage were the Baruten TIC Secretary, Hon. Iro, the Baruten TIC Supervisor for Works, Hon. Yahaya Gunu Sime, the former State APC Treasurer, Alh. Dantala Yaro, the Baruten APC Vice Chairman and Mafara of Yashikira Emirate, Hon. Usman Suleiman Bonni, the Boriya/Shiya Ward APC Chairman, Alh. Yakubu Sabi, the Tende Goobi of Morawonkourou and former LG party Chairman, Alh. Mohammed Salihu Woru, among others.
