Kwara Police Arrest Three Robbers Suspects, Recover Weapons

Kwara State Police Command has arrested three armed robbery suspects who conspired, attacked and robbed a cattle owner, Mohammed Usman, and his wife of N800,000.

The suspects’ names were given as Mohammed Bello, Mohamed Bello and Abubakar Mohammed.

The arrest was confirmed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, on Thursday, July 15, 2022.

The robbery incident was said to have occurred on Thursday, June 30 as residents of Oorsha Fulani Camp, Ilorin, were awoken by the presence of four armed men at about 12:30am.

According to the PPRO, the armed robbers, of the same ethnic extract with the victim, invaded his house, where he and his wife were viciously attacked and inflicted with several machete cuts on their heads and bodies.

Findings showed that earlier in the day before the attack, the victim sold cows worth N800,000 which was noticed by one of the suspects, Abubakar, who happened to be the victim’s neighbour.

He reportedly gave the information to other suspects, which prompted them to carry out the deadly attack on the victims, after which they dispossessed them of the proceeds of the sale of cows and disappeared into the bush.

“However,discreet investigation into the matter ernerstly commenced, as directed by CP Tuesday Assayomo, with a marching order that the criminals be smoked out and made to face justice.

“The investigation yielded positive results, as the Command’s tactical teams, in conjunction with vigilante and local hunters, started a relentless combing of the bushes, in the course of which Mohammed Bello, Mohamed Bello, and Abubakar Mohammed were arrested,” Okasanmi said.

He stated further that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and took the police to their armory where an AK-47 rifle, a cut-to-size locally-made pistol and a mask were recovered.

The PPRO added: “Efforts are still in progress towards arresting the leader of the gang who is still at large.

“The suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.”
