Police Arrest Two Suspected Rail Vandals In Oyo
Police in Oyo State have arrested two suspected railway vandals.
The Command in a statement by spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, said yesterday that the suspects, Ibrahim Saidu, 20, and his accomplice, Muritala Abdulahi, 30, were caught and arrested in Ile-Esho area of Ido Local Government Area on Friday.
He said the suspects were caught vandalising railline infrastructure at Ile-Esho Area, Omi-Adio, Ido Local Government Area of the state following intelligence-driven surveillance by the Command operatives attached to Omi-Adio Divisional Police Headquarters.
He said 34 units of pandrol clips and railroad clips, one fish plate, one hacksaw and a damaged railpot were among the items recovered from the suspects.
Osifeso added that the suspects have confessed to the crime and were cooperating with investigations.
A statement by Osifeso read in part: “In a sustained effort to rid Oyo State of criminal elements and secure its critical assets and infrastructure, the dragnet of the Oyo State Police Command on Friday 18/02/2022 caught up with suspected vandals specialised in the criminal trade of harvesting and selling Pandrol (railroad) clips.
“The suspects have confessed to the crime and are cooperating with ongoing investigations tailored at apprehending their entire criminal network.
“Lastly, the Commissioner of Police enjoined the citizenry to be unrelenting in the provision of credible and timely information to nip crime in the bud.”
