Gov. Abdulrazaq Pledges Involvement Of Critical Stakeholders In Devt Of Rural Communities

The Governor of Kwara State, Mr. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has said that his administration would continue to engage critical stakeholders in the task of developing rural communities in the state.

AbdulRazaq stated this in Offa in Offa Local Governmen Area of the state during the weekend while declaring open a one-day retreat for Community Development Council (CDC) leaders in the state.

The programme was organised by the office of the Senior Special Assistant on Community Development Intervention to the Governor, Hon. Kayode Oyin-Zubair.

The governor said that the development of rural communities in the state remained ne of the cardinal projects of his administration, adding that no communities would be left untouched.

He was represented at the event by the State Commissioner for Information, Mrs. Abosede Olaitan Buraimoh.

He said: “Our administration has continued to engage critical stakeholders in the development of our state since we assumed office on May 29, 19.

“We recognised the roles that community development associations (CDAs) play in the development of their respective communities.

“For that reason we have organised them into a governable structure known as community development council (CDC) in every local government area with a central administrative team at the state level.”

The governor added that “we will continue to partner these associations in our communities to bring about rapid socio-economic change that we always pursue.

“We implore our community leaders to show more interest in security matters. We urge them to birth and own various initiatives that will strengthen security in their neighbourhoods.”

AbdulRazaq noted further that “our investment in human capital development and infrastructure will yield the desired results if everyone gets involved in our renewed efforts to secure lives and properties.

“As a government we have never relaxed in our commitment to have a secured community, even as we pursue other developmental agenda.

“The TVS 3s (service, sales and spares) center in Offa is almost ready and will be commissioned soon. This is one of our community-driven investments that will add to the GDP of this commercial town and the state as a whole.

“We have similar investments in Araromipo, Irepodun Local Government Area, and Igbaja in Ifelodun Local Government Area.”

Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant on Community Development, Hon. Kayode Oyin-Zubair, stressed the need to partner with the state government for development.

Oyin-Zubair said: “We decided to hold a retreat to do appraisal of what we have done so far so as to allow people to make contributions for optimum results.

“The people in particular environment or location will determine the projects that will affect their lives.”

The governor aide explained that “our programme next year will be focusing on ownership of government projects, maintenance of government projects and sustenance so that if you have done road here, you can be sure that you are not coming back to do road in another one or two years you go to another place, if you have done a cottage hospital here because the people are patronising it, or maybe they support the government in one area or the other, you are not doing hospital in that area again you will be going to another place to provide solution to health problem.

“We are going to do a number of programnes and we would collaborate with relevant agencies, ministry and department of government to ensure that particular area of a place with government projects is owned by the people, maintain by the people so that there can be sustenance.”
