UNIOSUN Staff Stage Funeral Celebration Over Exit Of VC Popoola

It was a show of comedy on Friday as Osun State University staff held a mock funeral to oust former Vice Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola, who they described as a “tyrant leader”.

A small performance took place at the university’s main campus in Osogbo, the state capital, as staff gathered at the main campus around 10:00 a.m. on Friday to celebrate the vice Chancellor's departure with dances, poems and soybeans.
The staff also used a one-piece broom to sweep from the vice-principal’s office to the school door before eating a bean cake as a farewell to Popoola.

The staff, who are members of three unions including the National Union of Non-Academic Staff (NASU), the Nigerian Association of Senior University Staff (SSANU), and the National Association of Teachers (NAAT) ), argued that Popoola’s term was unsatisfactory and that his five years were full of injustice, corruption, prejudice, impunity for criminals, abuse of office and illegal activities.

They hoisted a flag in front of the Senate premises with a picture of Popoola and slogans such as “Thank God all the staff of Osun State University are celebrating the departure of a tyrannical Vice Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola. He will be happy to be remembered for lying, vandalism, arrogance, arrogance, division of power, drunkenness, corruption, abuse of power, replacement of power, conversation, sadness, witch hunt, love heart, lawlessness, and so on.”

The staff further expressed their happiness over the departure of Popoola who officially left office on Thursday and demanded that the new acting president of the university Professor Adefemi Bello correct the mistakes made by Popoola. Speaking to the staff, NASU President Comrade Isaiah Fayemi said Popoola had punished the staff for their alleged corruption, adding that at present the chairman of the university’s joint committee, Comrade Lekan Adiat and others are being punished.
“Popoola said” It was the VC who came and used his position to abuse us, keep our salaries, that’s why we are celebrating his departure. We are glad that he went away forever.
“One of the reasons we came together to celebrate his release is that everyone has learned a lesson and the incumbents, that if you do good you will be happy, and if you do bad things, as Popoola did. , it will be done for you. condemnation. We expect the newly appointed VC to perform well. We started this university together, ”Fayemi said.
