International Cooperatives Day: AbdulRazaq's Wife Distributes Working Tools To Women, Youths In Kwara

The First Lady of Kwara State and Founder Ajike Peoples Support Centre, Ambassador Dr Olufolake AbdulRazaq has empowered women and youths selected from across the three senatorial districts of the state with working equipment.

The empowerment programme which was in commemoration of the 2021 International Day of Co-operatives was held in Ilorin on Monday 5th July 2021.

Dr. Abdulrazaq at the event stated that the impact of Co-operative societies in sustaining micro and small scale businesses were essential to the growth of the economy in line with this year's theme 'Rebuild better together'.

"I congratulate the beneficiaries of today's empowerment programme and enjoin all to use the items to chart a new course for your businesses in order to be self-reliant and to also contribute to the development of your communities", she said.

The First Lady however appreciated the support of Bank of Industry and commended the Kwara State Ministry of Enterprise and Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) while assuring that the state will leave no stone unturned to ensure that Kwara people would be better positioned to harness the opportunities that abound in a post covid world.

Earlier the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) , Prof. Mamman Jubril, appreciated the First Lady for the empowerment programme adding that co-operative activities are encouraged in a favourable environment which the state government had provided.

In her own remarks the Kwara State Commissioner for Enterprise Mrs Arinola Lawal, appealed to stakeholders to identify with co-operative societies in order to develop the economy.

In his speech, the President, Kwara Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) Alhaji Fatai Ayodimeji commended the first lady for the empowerment programme adding that the pandemic caused disruptions to living and the burden of care borne by women and youths in the society.
Symbolic presentation of the work tools was made to the beneficiaries at the event by the First Lady and other dignitaries present.

The beneficiaries were empowered with Gas cookers/ ovens, hair dryers, grinding machines, sewing machines and makeup kits.

Dignitaries present included Wives of Senators, members of the State House of Assembly, Secretary to Government, State Executive Council members, Traditional rulers, Executive Secretaries of the Kwara State Agencies, Women and Youth Groups, and a host of others.
