Kwara First Lady And Other Gov. Wives Seeks Harmonisation Of Gender Violence Laws


The First Lady of Kwara State and the Secretary, Nigerian Governors Wives Against Gender-Based Violence's, Dr. Mrs. Olufolake Abdulrazaq has joined her counterparts from other States of the Federation to seek for harmonisation of Nigerian laws to combat the growing spate of gender-Based violence in the country. 

The meeting which was held at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja on Wednesday, 2nd December, 2020, centered around charting a way forward from the just concluded NGWA-GBV's maiden annual conference; A policy dialogue between States Governors and First Ladies of the Federation and the need to support other States in ensuring the passage of relevant policies and laws to curb the menace of Domestic and Gender-based violence in such states.
 

Recall that on the 15th, October 2020, the Kwara State Governor, HE, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq signed the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act (VAPP) bill into law. The bill is to provide protection and justice for victims of sexual abuse, spousal battery, and unlawful punishments in the State. 

The First Ladies resolved to continue to work actively towards intensifying campaigns against Domestic and Gender-Based Violence in their respective States.
 

After the NGWA-GBV conference, the forum hosted a dinner in recognition of its members and to celebrate the success of its 1st Annual Conference and policy dialogue between First Ladies and State Governors. 

Members of the NGWA-GBV were presented with awards in recognition of their commitment and resilience in the fight against Gender-Based Violence in their respective States. 


Dr. Olufolake Abdulrazaq also took part in the NGWA-GBV advocacy video shoots and campaign against gender based violence.
