(UPDATE) Rape Allegation: Marufu Denies It, Says It’s Political, As Family Insisted It’s True


The family of the rape victim that was reported on KwaraReporters on Friday has confirmed the allegations against Alhaji Maroof Adebayo popularly known as Marufu Alujo.

The mother, Mrs Omotosho and sister of the the victim, Omolara Omotosho during phone conversation with our correspondent said the incident happened on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at Ile Oba Compound, Ojoku.

The mother of the victim, Mrs Omotosho disclosed that Maroof Adebayo who is the APC LG Publicity Secretary for Oyun local government committed the crime as well as defile her underage daughter.

She noted they were unable to report the case on Sunday night but lodges complaint at Olojoku's Palace. Mrs Omotosho said he lured her daughter to his room in disguise of paying for puff puff. She added that the case was reported at Ilemona Police Station on Monday while the victim undergoes medical examination the following day at Offa General House to ascertain the incident.

Collaborating her mother, Omolara Omotosho said the medical examination has confirmed incident and justice must prevail. She also denied having any affair or relationship with Marufu Alujo as claimed.

Similarly, the monarch in the town also confirmed the incident while speaking with our correspondent.

In his response, Maroof Adebayo ( Marufu Ajulo) denied the allegations, saying he was only charged for harassment and improper conduct against minor.

Maroof Adebayo accused Olojoku of Ojoku and the member representing Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Hon Ismail Tijani of masterminding the gang up against him.

''My wife (Maryam) and brother (Ganiyu) were in the house that day. The allegation is not true. Police only charge me for improper conduct''. He added.

He says he attended APC Ward Exco meeting with complaint's mother on that faithful day, but the mother said Alujo only attended the meeting to cover up his sin.

He also linked the allegations to Kwara APC crisis and plot to stop his councillorship ambition for Ojoku ward in forthcoming local government election.

Meanwhile, efforts to reach the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) in charge of the case at Ilemona Police Division proved abortive as of the time of publishing this report. A Police Officer in the station refused to comment on the case in a phone conversation with our reporter.
