Universal Health Coverage Is Essential Towards Stemming Neo-Natal And Maternal Mortality Rate; Dr (Mrs) Abdulrazaq


The First Lady of Kwara State, Dr. Mrs Olufolake Abdulrazaq has advocated for a Universal health coverage system which is aimed at steming the tide of neonatal and maternal mortality rate.

Her Excellency made this statement when she met with the officials of the Kwara State Health Insurance Agency and EXARO Enterprise Solutions- the consortium handling the Kwara State Universal Health coverage.

She said the state health insurance scheme had the potential to reduce infant and maternal mortality.

Her Excellency further said that her office was willing to take steps towards tackling infant and maternal mortality in the state.

“We look forward to rolling out plans in support of this course, my office  will work closely with you,” she said.

Speaking earlier, Hon. Owolabi Rasaq, Honourable representing Share/Oke-Ode constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly and the Chairman House Committee on Health appreciate Her Excellency for her support for the health committee and he assured her of the health committee continuous support for her office in other to achieve adequate and efficient healthcare delivery service to the people.

In his remarks the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Raji Razaq thanked the team for its proactive steps towards enlivening health service delivery in the state. He also noted that the Universal Health coverage scheme is* an efficient strategy towards achieving reduction in neonatal and maternal mortality.

Also, Dr Olubunmi Jetawo-Winter, the Executive Secretary, Kwara State Health Insurance Agency, said efforts were in top gear for full implementation of the health insurance scheme.

She said that the visit to the office of the first lady was to seek partnership for effective healthcare delivery in the state.

On his part the team leader of the EXARO company, Mr. Giel Van Niekerl gave a brief introduction of the company and areas of coverage to implement their scope of work. Mr. Niekerl highlighted other states where the company is presently operating.

Present at the meeting are, Hon. Deborah Bose Aremu, the Hon. Commissioner of Social Development Engineer Rahman Giwa, Member of the Kwara State Committee on Assets Recovery, Mr Gales the Managing Director of EXARO enterprise solutions.
