The wave of change in the Political landscape of Kwara state has more of its radiation in the Northern senatorial district of the state. With the coming on board of Distinguished Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, the zone has not remained the same again. Changing the dynamics of leadership and true representation, Senator Sadiq Umar, a Pharmacist by training and a development Expert, has devised a different strategic plan to give the good people of Kwara North a credible representation they deserve in the 9th Senate.

Connecting with the Old and giving the Young a listening ear.

The steps he has taken so far are unprecedented. Choosing his Legislative Aides from all the Local Governments that constitutes the Senatorial district. Visiting the nook and cranny of the zone to engage with the people on their needs.

Consulting people of thought to do a needs assessment of various local Governments to serve as a guide on taking steps to bring development to the zone. This is a radical departure from the past. Senator Sadiq's personal qualities have helped in reshaping the thoughts and perceptions of the people towards Political officeholders. He has disrupted the narrative with his uncommon humility, simplicity, honesty, transparency and above all Integrity. Sadiq has closed the hitherto wide gap between the Leadership and followership with his rare candor.

He has demonstrated his readiness to serve his people by being responsive in fixing some basic infrastructures in urgent need of attention. Taking responsibility of paying stipends to some Volunteer Health Workers to bridge the gap of Health Personnel, among other laudable initiatives.

The few measures highlighted here are not exhaustive of the monumental difference Senator Sadiq has so far injected into the polity of Kwara North Senatorial District. He has laid the groundwork for many good things to come. Part of which was a two days retreat he convened with the Kwara North Lawmakers in the Kwara state House of Assembly for an integrated strategic development plan for four years to give a common front in tackling various problems bedeviling the region.

Leaving his comfort zone to heed the call to serve the people of the most backward area of Kwara state amidst the Political murky Waters, Senator Sadiq believes that politics which is viewed by many as a “dirty game” can be played with decency and decorum for the sole goal of serving the people. Sadiq in his humanitarian spirit has already set up the SADIQ UMAR FOUNDATION(SUF) to provide support to the Elderly, the Vulnerable, indigent Students and other community services to make life easier for the people across the Kwara North. A bill for the establishment of Federal College of Education(Technical) Kaiama has already passed the first reading in the Senate, courtesy of Senator Sadiq Umar. This will contribute greatly to the Educational Advancement of the area.

In the words of the great Abraham Lincoln  “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” Senator Sadiq has so far demonstrated that the elements of Power are to serve People. Not oppression. Not Suppression. Sadiq is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Primary Health Care and Communicable Disease. He is also a member of Senate committees on Health, Interior, Education, Tetfund, Local Content, INEC and Aviation. In him, we see a Ray of Hope take the KWARA North Senatorial District to the next level. May his burning desire to see a well developed Kwara North come to fruition.
