KWSG Distributes Food Stuff, Other Materials To Olorunda Psychiatric Home

-Promises Commitment on Reduction of Mental Illness 

As part of the activities lined up for the celebration of the 59th Independence Anniversary of the Country, the Kwara State Government has provided for the mentally challenged patients admitted at the Olorunda Trado-Psychiatric Home, Eyenkorin in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

While presenting the items, which included Rice, Gari, Yam, Indomie, Semovita, Detol Soap, Detergent Soap, Groundnut Oil and others,  Her Excellency, Mrs. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, the Wife of the Executive of the State, noted that the provision was part of the scheme of the State Government towards the rehabilitation of the mentally challenged in the State.

Mrs. AbdulRazaq, who was represented by the Wife of the Honourable Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Alhaja Saidat Danladi, said the new Government   will ensure that there is a concerted effort on the crusade to reduce mental  illness in the State, adding that the welfare of the citizens will always be foregrounded in the programmes of the Government.

She further explained that the donation was also part of the ceremonies packaged along the celebration of the 59th Celebration of the Independence Day.

Lamenting the alarming rate of mental illness in the recent time, the Wife of the Governor cautioned youths against involving in any act that can damage the brain, identifying environmental, bio-chemical and other factors as the causes of mental illness.

Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Olanrewaju Opeloyeru, commended the efforts of the State Government in evacuating mentally retarded the people and bringing them to the Asylum, promising that the Government will redouble efforts in intervening in the scourge of mental illness.

The Director of the Trado-Psychiatric Centre, Alhaji Folorunsho Olorunda Oluwanisola, thanked the State Government for the gesture and enjoined the Government to heighten its sympathy for the occupants of the Asylum by renovating the centre and providing water, toilet and other facilities for the centre to change the deplorable condition of the Psychiatric Hospital.

The representative of the Wife of the Governor was later conducted round the decrepit Centre.

Other dignitaries at the event included the Representative of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Alhaja Aishat Mohammed, the Wife of the Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Health, Alhaja Baliqs Owolabi, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaja Marian Garuba and others.
