KWHA Calls For Suspension Of KWASU Governing Council, 16 Councils' DPMs, Treasurers

Kwara State House of Assembly has called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to suspend the governing council of the Kwara State University Malete.

The Speaker, Engineer Yakubu Danladi stated this while reading the house resolution following consideration of a petition titled "Unpalatable Activities at the Kwara State University " KWASU written by one Mallam Usman Adamu and two others.

Presenting the petition to his colleagues, the member representing Afon constituency, Alhaji Abdulwahab Opakunle said that the petitioners are agrieved by what they described as unjustifiable action of members of the governing council in the short listing of candidates for the post of Vice Chancellor for KWASU.

The legislators in their various contribution at plenary noted that although the governing council is backed by law to operate, they can not work outside the guidelines of the National University Commission on the appointment of Vice Chancellor.

They observed that aside from failing to abide by the stipulated age in appointment of Vice Chancellor, the governing council equally screened someone who has been out of the academic field for the past nine years.

Meanwhile, the house has also recommended the suspension of Director of Personnel Management and Treasurers in all the Sixteen Local Government Councils in the State.

This was sequel to adoption of the report of the Joint Committee on Local Government, Chieftancy Affairs, Ethics and Judiciary on Misappropriation of statutory allocation by the suspended Local Government Council Chairmen.
