Payment Of New Minimum Wage May Delay In Kwara - Gov Ahmed

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed

Governor Ahmed Abdulfatah of Kwara state has said that the delay in the release of the minimum wage template by the National Salary, Income and Wages Commission may stall early implementation of the new N30,000 minimum wage for the workers.

Speaking at the Workers’ Day celebration in Ilorin on Wednesday, Governor Ahmed said that the minimum wage template is the basic working tool which the 13-man committee set up by the government would use to determine new minimum wage that will be implemented.

Represented by the state Head of Service, Mrs Modupe Oluwole, the governor said that the minimum wage reviewing committee constituted by the government was set up to enable workers to enjoy the new salary as soon as implementation commences.

The governor, who expressed the determination of his administration towards ensuring better welfare for the workers, commended them and the labour leaders for maintaining a good working relationship with the state government.

In their separate speeches the new NLC chairman in the state, Alhaji Isa Ore and his counterpart from the TUC, Comrade Kolawole Olumoh, urged the state government to ensure full implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage for the workers.

Alhaji Ore also assured workers in the state of proper representation in the incoming administration of Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

In his message to commemorate Workers’ Day, the state governor-elect, Alhaji Abdul-Rahman AbdulRazaq, called on workers in the state to support his incoming administration in order to achieve its goals of evolving a new Kwara that works for everyone.

The governor-elect, who assured workers that his administration would be fair to them, said that “Whatever policy decisions taken by us will place the public interest above all other considerations.

“Workers will get dignified treatment in all cases as they are the engine room of any government or economy.

“Apart from giving them their dues, we will carry them along, protect their dignity, and be as accommodative of their interest as possible".
