Nocturnal Politicians Can't Threaten Us In Kwara, Says Senator Rafiu Ibrahim

The Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Dr Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim, yesterday dismissed threats by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to form new government in Kwara State in 2019.

Ibrahim, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator, described opposition figures in the state as nocturnal politicians, who seldomly visit home except when election is around the corner.

The legislator, who is seeking re-election, spoke to Journalists on the sidelines of the seventh annual get-together of Kwara South wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) organised in his honour and held at First Baptist Church in Ijara-Isin, Isin Local Government Area of the state.

He said those parading themselves as opposition leaders operate from Lagos but have a transit home in Kwara.

Ibrahim stated that the people of the state are wise enough to make informed decision on who to be entrusted with their mandate, expressing confidence that the PDP candidates will be elected in next year's polls.

"We are never threatened by the opposition, and we can never be threatened by nocturnal politicians that come every four years. People that operate from Lagos. They just have a transit home in Kwara.

"They don't operate here. Most of them live in Lagos, and they are the one leading the other group. So, we can't be threatened with that. We know our people are very wise, especially Kwara South. They know how to make their choices. We are sure that their choice will be our party, PDP", Ibrahim said.

The legislator urged the people of Kwara South to vote for the PDP presidential candidates in the general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP governorship candidate in Kwara, Rt. Hon. Rasak Atunwa and other candidates of the party.

Ibrahim said, "I thank God for this overwhelming support for myself and our party. We thank God for the life of CAN. They have always been supporting us with prayers, and today is the climax. They now openly canvass for people to vote for me and other candidates in PDP. I thank God for that.

"We have heard testimonies coming in, and that now buttress the fact about what we are telling the opposition, that we have been the one with the people. They should now know the difference between those who have been with the people and people that come nocturnally every four years.

"So, we want people to use these testimonies to make their choices. I'm not here alone. I'm here on behalf of our leader, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Governor Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed and the entire leadership of our party with all candidates running election under PDP. People should use these testimonies by these men of God that are very honest, to judge us and vote for all of us".

Speaking at the event, Mrs Deborah Ooye of Operation Dorcas Ministry, praised the Senator for extending his kind gesture to widows through her ministry.

She said the legislator had proven to be a worthy representative of the people and called on the people of Kwara South to support his re-election bid.

The chairman of Kwara South CAN, Rev. Paul Oluwabukola and other clerics, who spoke on the platform of CAN, canvassed support for the senator with special prayer for his re-election.

Senator Ibrahim at the event, donated food items and monetary gift to the association.

Dignitaries at the get together were former Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Elder Joel Ogundeji; Isin Local Government Chairman, Prince Ladi Omole; Senior Legislative Aide to the Senator, Alhaji Akogun Abdulrauf Jimoh; the state Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Muideen Alalade and former members of the state House of Assembly, party stalwarts among others.
