Kwara APC Faults The Inclusion Of Kawu Baraje in National Convention Committee

The Caucus for Progressive Change within the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the inclusion of Mr. Kawu Baraje, a former factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the APC convention committee will rather lead the 'party to the slaughter slab'.

In a statement issued in Okuta, Baruteen local government area of Kwara State on Monday by the chairman of the caucus, Alhaji Abdullahi Samari expressed the dissatisfaction of the vast majority of party loyalists in the state to development.

"The leadership of APC is on the verge of getting it wrong again. The inclusion of Mr. Kawu Baraje serves no progressive move but that of those individuals that are bent on destroying APC and already looking elsewhere for asylum.

"History is not a friend of anyone but the true reflection of our antecedents. We must consistently remind ourselves that Mr. Kawu Baraje was the willing horse that truncated PDP convention in 2014, before emerging as a factional chairman. The feat he has been saddled to orchestrate this time around. We can conveniently say that,  a leopard will never change its skin."

The statement accused Mr. Baraje as a disloyal member of the party whose allegiance is not to the party and its government but to a personality.

"These instances would suffice that, Mr. Baraje has publicly denigrated the party and its government in the past.

"In September 2017 at a well attended ceremony organised by the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) in Ilorin, Mr. Baraje took time out to turn tide against the APC and its government when he said among other things that, the economic crisis experienced, lack of jobs and poor leadership of the day should be forgiven because his leader, Dr. Bukola Saraki would find a way out of the debacle. The audio really went viral.

"It is fashionable in Kwara State today to find one lackey or the other of the senate president lashing out at President Muhammadu Buhari or the APC. The speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr. Ahmad Ali stole the show last week at a media parley to lampoon President Buhari because his godfather is currently in court over corruption charges bordering on false declaration of assets. The way to curry the favour of Mr. Senate President amongst his followers here is on how best you can abuse either President Buhari or the APC. Would any member seeking a better future for the party indulge in the despicable acts?" Samari queried.

The caucus further stated it is time for the National Chairman of APC, Chief Odigie-Oyegun to prove to the world that "he has no vested interest in Kwara State chapter of the APC as we have always had it that he is working for the interest of the senate president alone".

"We are aware that Chief Oyegun had always tilted to the side of the senate president and Balogun-Fulani led executive. Events that led to the emergence of Dr. Bukola Saraki as the senate president and information released by the national chairman to North Central caucus of the party sabotaging party's general interest showed where the national chairman stood all along.

"However, we are aware that the inordinate interest of the senate president in this convention committee will be served through Baraje who sees nothing bad in the death of the party.

"We are taken aback that in a state where there are factions within the party why would the leadership of a party interested in peace and progress tilt to a side? This is not the senate chamber where the Senate President must take first.

"It will be safe to believe the rumour making the rounds that Mr. Ishola Balogun Fulani recently boasted that the convention guidelines is in  his possession even before the committee was constituted.

"We heard also that the current executive members of the party in Kwara State are upbeat that they will remain in office till eternity because that is the promise from the senate president. Are the outcomes of the convention not premeditated and would it be far from tenure elongation?".

The caucus therefore appealed to the leadership of APC and President Muhammadu Buhari to remove Mr. Kawu Baraje from that list and replace him a neutral and loyal member of the party immediately.
