Kwara State Badminton Head Coach Killed In Car Crash


It's a very disheartening to report that the head coach of Kwara’s badminton team, AbdulRauf Bello, was met with a car-crash along Ogbomosho road, as he was returning from Lagos where had gone to interview at the Spanish embassy when the said crash had occured.

Late Bello held a triple gold medal at the African Para-Badminton Championships in 2018, Bello who also doubled as the Kwara Badminton coach was Africa’s ace Badminton player with several medals to his credit.

He was also the African representative on the board of the World Para-badminton Federation and was scheduled to travel to Spain on 6th of May for the final round of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics qualifier.

He started playing badminton able-bodied participants 17 years ago, and later on in his career decided to take up coaching.

Bello qualified for the 2020 Brazil International Para-Badminton Championship and Spanish International Para-Badminton championships, but was hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic as both countries cancelled the championships.

His remains was rightfully buried in his hometown on Thursday afternoon at the Muslim cemetery located at Irewolede area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

Late AbdulRauf Bello is survived by his pregnant wife and aged mother.
