No fewer than 2,500 vulnerable Kwarans have each received N10,000 cash deposited into their account from the immediate past President of the Senate, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, which is to support them during this difficult times occasioned the dreaded Coronavirus pandemic.

The payment which was done in phases had 500 people benefiting in the first phase and 1000 beneficiaries covered in the second phase and another 1000 in the third phase that ended on May 15th More beneficiaries are expected to be reached in subsequent phases.

This intervention is different from the palliative materials including food items, hand sanitizer and gloves Saraki had earlier distributed to less privileged members of the society, aimed at cushioning the impacts of the lockdown that was imposed the State government to curb spread of COVID-19.

Senator Bukola Saraki had earlier in the month directed that using verified Bank details, the most vulnerable should be selected across Kwara, as part of efforts to alleviate the hardship they are going through during this period.

To avoid public gathering, which is in line with the government’s directive, the money was paid directly into the bank accounts of the select beneficiaries.

Recall that Saraki, last week, through his party, Kwara PDP, also commenced distribution of Ramadan packages to several individuals and groups in Kwara.

Meanwhile, some beneficiaries of the cash donation have commended Senator Saraki for reaching out to them, noting that the gesture would provide relief for them during this challenging period.

One of the beneficiaries, Ajeigbe Idiyat from Ilorin West local government area, said she was happy to receive the money in her account, and appreciated Saraki for deeming it necessary to provide financial support to the vulnerable, despite not holding any political office at the moment.

She said: “I was very happy when I got the money in my account, courtesy of Bukola Saraki. I sincerely appreciate him for the financial support he’s given to the less privileged, despite the fact that he’s not holding any political office. May God reward him abundantly.”

Another beneficiary, Mahmud Abdullahi in Baruten local government area, lauded the former Senate President for his kind gesture, saying “the money came in at the right time and will be used to take care on his family.”
