Standstill As Tinubu, Gov. Abdulrasaq, Bishop Oyedepo, Other Dignitaries Grace Omu-Aran Day


The ancient city of Omu-Aran in Irepodun local government area of Kwara State stood still over the weekend (Saturday), as dignitaries from all walks of life converge on the town to witness 2019 Omu-Aran day.

The annual event which will linger in the minds of sons, daughters, friends and well wishers of the town for a very long time to come was full of glitz and glamour as the Nigeria high society temporarily relocated to Omu-Aran for the star studded event.

Leading dignitaries to the event was the executive Governor of Kwara State, Alh. Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq who as now usual was one of the earliest dignitaries to grace the event.

Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq who drove-in, in his signature quiet nature was received with a standing ovation, albeit for his promptness which caught everybody unaware as the event proper was barely starting when, Gov. Abdulrasaq the special guest of honour walked in.

AbdulRazaq said efforts are ongoing to strengthen security across the state and put in place modest infrastructure to facilitate development in the hinterlands, adding that the best strategy to build a viable state was to help small businesses to grow through funding and infrastructure.

“Our administration is working on putting in place the necessary security architecture to protect lives and properties. We are seriously working to ensure that normal banking operations resume in our major towns like Offa, Omu Aran, Patigi and so on. The current situation where full time banking operations are restricted to the state capital is not acceptable,” he added.

AbdulRazaq also promised to look into the requests of Omu Aran community in the area of infrastructure and water.

ODA President Bisi Adeyemi, on his part, called on the state government to look into the infrastructure deficit in the town, including the lack of any public tertiary institution there and the abandonment of the Omu Aran township road by the last administration.

“We are hopeful that the present government of the people in Kwara, led by our indefatigable Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, will not hesitate to carry Omu Aran along in its water revolution in Kwara State,” Adeyemi said.

Also speaking, the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti, who noted that Omu-Aran has gained urban status due to its rapid expansion appealed for more developmental projects in the community.

He urged well-meaning individuals and groups in the community to continue to contribute to its developmen as government alone cannot according to him provide all the needed basic amenities.

Asiwaju Bola Ahned Tinubu, the National Leader of APC who was represented by Alhaji Mohammed Abioye announced the donation of ten million naira and one million naira on behalf of the former Lagos state governor and the minister respectively. Omu-Aran indigenes in Lagos state also announced the donation of five million naira while those who are residents of Abuja dropped half a million naira.

The event, which included the launching of a N500m development fund for the town, had in attendance dignitaries from within and outside the state, including Kwara State Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi; Senator Sulaiman Ajadi; House of Representatives member Raheem Tunji Ajuloopin; founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide Dr David Oyedepo; Olupo of Ajasse Ipo Oba Sikiru Woleola II; Elese of Igbaja Oba Ahmed Babalola Awuni Arepo III; and Olomu of Omu Aran Oba AbdulRaheem Oladele Adeoti (Olomu Efon II).

Esther Ajayi’s #2b (Two Billion naira) Donation
Reverend Mother Esther Ajayi, the celebrity billionaire founder of the Love of Christ Generation Chuch, C & S iya Adura London, who was absent but stole the show with her #2b (two billion naira donation) to Moses Orimilade University, Omu-Aran threw the crowd into frenzied jubilation and ulululation.

Her donation which although isn’t going to the coffers of the Omu-Aran Development Association but the proposed Moses Orimolade University, Omu-Aran, was the climax of the occasion which was unmatched.

The Omu-Aran born honourable representing Irepodun/Ekiti/Isin/Oke-Ero federal constituency, Hon. Abdulraheem tunji Olawuyi Ajuloopin was officially crowned the star boy of Omu-Aran by well wishers as he was physically a workaholic all in the name of staging a worthwhile event.

Ajuloopin who was the Chief host of the event was seen moving from one table to the other, ensuring all dignitaries and attendees at the celebration was well catered for.

He also came out as one of the biggest donors with him and his friends donation of #10m (Ten million naira).

While appreciating all and sundry for the successful outing enjoined all sons and daughters of the town to regardless of artificial divides always rise in unison in defence and development of the town.
