Kwara Lawmaker Empowers 10 Constituents (Photos)

As part of efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reduce poverty rate in Kwara state, a member of the state house of assembly, representing Share/Oke-Ode constituency, Owolabi Razaq has empowered members of his constituency with start up capital.

No fewer than 10 people, including widows, petty traders, and vulnerable individuals have benefited from the empowerment initiative of the lawmaker.

Hon. Owolabi while presenting the cash to the beneficiaries on Sunday at Oke-Ode said the distribution of start up capital was part of his gesture to give back to the society and empower his constituents, particularly the widow and vulnerable individuals.

He said the empowerment programme aim at complementing efforts of the present administration led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq decision to encourage and empower petty traders in Kwara state in order to lift them out of poverty.

The lawmaker therefore urged the beneficiaries to put the cash gift in good use.

“First and foremost I appreciate the Almighty God for the opportunity I have to be here today, also I appreciate my Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq and my speaker Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi the Honourable speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly for their unflinching support all the time."

"This distribution is as a result of baseline studies of the need of the people in my constituency. My plan is to extend this gesture to other remaining wards in my constituency; Oro-ago, Ile-re, Oke-Ode 2, Oke-Ode 3, Share 1,2,3,4, and 5 and with the various supports from the state government we will do projects that will transform this constituency.” He said.

Owolabi hinted that though, the economy was faced with challenges but said he has resolved to continue to make impacts in the lives of the people in line with the mandate given to him.

He also assured those that are yet to benefit from the gesture not to be discouraged, promising to roll out similar empowerment programmes soon.
