KWHA Advocates measures to check road carnage during Sallah Festival...

The Kwara State House of Assembly has approved the request of the State Governor, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to appoint 7 Special Advisers to ease governance and dividends of democracy in the state.

The approval followed a message from the Governor to the Speaker, Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu dated 5th August, 2019 requesting the approval of the House on the appointment of 7 Special Advisers by his government.

The Speaker, who read the message to members at the plenary, threw the question to all members and they unanimously gave the nod for the Governor to do so.

Meanwhile, the House has called on the Federal Road Safety Corps and other security agencies to extend their areas of coverage and hours of operation to check carnage during the forthcoming Eld el- Kabir festival.

This followed a Matter of General Public Importance on " The Need for Safe Driving During Sallah Festival" raised by member representing Ojomu/Balogun Constituency, Hon Saheed Popoola and seconded by member representing Ilorin East Constituency, Hon Jimoh Aliyu Yusuf.

The House, which equally called for more sensitisation on safety measures by broadcast stations as a matter of social responsibility, enjoined Transport Unions to be alive to their responsibilities of monitoring the activities of their members during the sallah period to reduce road carnage.

Hon Popoola had while raising the Matter observed with displeasure the casualties that usually characterise festive periods, occasioned by over speeding, over loading and other man made causes and called on the House to charge all critical stakeholders to be alive to their responsibilities to check road accidents during and after the festive period.

Other members who spoke on the Matter, among other things, called for moderate Eid El Kabir celebrations, pointing out that the period should be used for sober reflection on virtues of sacrifice, piety and love for one another to further enhance peace and progress of the country.

The law makers who spoke on the Matter, were Hon Felix Omotayo Awodiji (Irepodun) , Hon Abdul Ganiyu Salahu (Omupo) , Hon Abdulgafar Ayinla (Ilorin North West), Hon Abdullahi Danbaba (Kaiama/Kemanji/Wajibe), Hon Aliyu Jimoh Yusuf (Ilorin East,), Hon Ndamusa Mohammed Guyegi (Edu), Hon Abdulkareem Paku( Malete/Ipaiye/Oloru )and Hon Awolola Ayokunle Olumide( Isin).
