The Marketers of Owode market in Offa, Offa local government area of Kwara State, at the weekend protested against the installation of a new Iyaloja by the Oloffa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II.

The monarch who had early announced the appointment of one Mrs Idiat Ige-Ishola as the new Iyaloja of the market following the demise of the former Iyaloja, Alhaja Shifau Raji Dogo Apeke was against by the market traders.

The announcement was made by the Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muyideen Salman at the fidua prayer organised for the late Iyaloja.

But the traders who are not satisfied with what they described as imposition of Iyaloja on them by the Oloffa, staged a peaceful rally to demand the immediate reversal of her appointment.

They marched to the house of one of the respected elders in the town, Prof. Mosobalaje Oyawoye and asked him to prevail on other elders of Offa to urgently intervene in the matter.

The first professor of Geology in Africa urged the protesting traders to remain calm, and promised to get back to them. He has since been reaching out to other respected dignitaries from Offa to see how the matter can be resolved.
