Fresh Defections Hit Saraki's Camp, As Thousands Of Members Dump PDP For APC

ANRP guber candidate backs APC...

Over two thousand members of the PDP in Kwara State on Sunday defected to the opposition APC, the second such major exodus from the party in one week after the crushing defeat it suffered in the presidential and National Assembly elections.

The mass defections took place in Taiwo area of Ilorin, led by Hon. Bamidele Aluko, a former House of Assembly member and a staunch foot soldier of Senator Bukola Saraki.

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the ANRP in Kwara State Dr AbdulMumeen Yinka Ajia has declared his support for APC's AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, saying the latter largely represents his dream about the state.

Ajia, a leading candidate with appreciable following among the youth, said in a statement at the weekend in Ilorin that AbdulRazaq's victory will turn the page for the political history of Kwara.

Ajia also announced his immediate resignation from the ANRP and movement to the APC "because the situation in Kwara is really not about party but our struggle against retrogressive leadership as a people."

He called on his supporters to deliver their bloc votes for the APC candidate.

“I have also gone through his manifesto and I am assured that the progressive, people-centred Kwara that I envisioned can be kick-started under his leadership,” Ajia added.

Aluko, leader of the decampees, was chairman of the Kwara United Football Club and the PDP leader in Badari Ward of Ilorin West, the most populated local government area of Kwara State.

Other top defectors included Alhaji Alao Abdulyekeen, another PDP top gun from Baboko area of Ilorin, and Akeem Dare youth leader from Balogun Fulani ward 1.

Also on Sunday in Ilorin, over 500 PDP members from Asa local government area joined the  APC.

Leaders of the defectors said the outcome of the National Assembly elections was the clearest manifestation yet “that Kwarans have decided to reject and retire Senator Bukola Saraki for reasons of bad governance, oppression and non-inclusive leadership.”

“Our people are tired. Salaries don't get paid in the true sense of the word and the infrastructure on the ground is not commensurate with the resources the state has received over the years. Worst still, people are tired of leaders who see everything from their own comfort zone,” Aluko said at a reception held for them by the APC as represented by Barrister Kunle Suleiman and Hon. Olawoyin Magaji.

“People are tired of the status quo. People are angry and fed up with dictatorial leadership and the result is what you just said.”

The mass defection came a few days after over 500 PDP members from Osin Wara Osin Egbejila ward and others declared allegiance to the APC in Surulere area of the state capital, describing the party's governorship candidate AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq as the “Moses of our time who is changing the political history of the state.”

Despite the latest vows by Saraki to win  the next governorship elections, analysts have called the ballot in favour of the APC especially after the all-round defeat Saraki's PDP suffered in the Feb 23 National Assembly elections. Saraki and all the PDP  parliamentary candidates lost in the elections -- the first time the political dynasty headed by the senate president has suffered such defeat.

    1. It's very sad for us to be playing bad politics . You can not change the outcome of the 2/23/19 election. If you truly love Nigeria why are you praying for its failure because by praying for the president to fail you are ultimately praying for the country to fail. Enough of bitter politics of the old generation.

    1. If you call a man that was former governor, former petroleum minister, former head of state, former PTF chairman, then president awaiting second term, a man with "porous brain" I think that is a good kind of brain.
But you are the one that need to examine your own brain if you have an elder in your family? The holy book tell us to respect elder, and give honour to them that are due of honour. If your brain is porous as that of president Buhari is, you won't remain in the position you are now.

    2. Please ignore them they are still whaling bitterly, who ever think Buhari does not deserve it and think kwara should remain the way I left it 1995 they are the enemy of kwara state. I was there last year September and around 8pm the whole street was dark for one week nothing like infrastructure at all .

  5. There is no distinction between APC and PDP. Nothing good can come out from both parties. They will continue to bring more poverty to our people. No electricity, education, health, disability inclusion, and many more. Their first level still a disaster and I know the next level is going to be disastrous considering the level of borrowing from china....

Maybe you are used to free money in old order.
Haven't you heard CHANGE, this government is producing legitimate millionaires, not looters millionaires.

Stay there and be lamrntila and be wailing that poverty is in the land.
Where were you in 2012 when world Bank reported of 120 millions poor people in Nigeria? So in your imagination it is Buhari's regime that created poverty in Nigeria?
When the wise has taken advantage of the diversified economic to be making money, e.g. agric and mining.

  7. APC=PDP.
Their defection clearly shows they are after there pocket not for the people's interest. Nigeria is a joke where our politicians keep faking things.

Nigeria people let us wise up. Our eyes don open. We need new person to be our president and our legislators with fresh ideas not people that will defect from Apc or pdp today and vice versa tomorrow for their selfish interest.

  12. It is unfortunate that some people unjustifiably refused to see any good in President Buhari and i can bet that those abusing him will be worse if they find themselves in position of authority. President Buhari is laying solid foundation for a better society and instead of people to tap into it and make much of it, they are busy abusing the old man. New generation of genuine millionaires are being made unlike the previous political parties making fake and emergency millionaires. Go into agric production and export your produce tp Europe and America and you'll be paid in dollars rather than seat there and be abusing Baba Buhari who has encouraged agric production through the provision of incentives. Unfortunately, some people are lazy and used to free money, they can't work. All advanced countries like Britain, America, Canada, Germany, China, Malaysia et al all went through same same dark moments we are experiencing in Nigeria but they believed in their leaders and rallied round them. Now, those countries and their citizens are well off now and Nigerians are ready to spend millions to secure visas to those countries but not ready to support their President Buhari the way those people supported their leaders.

  14. Defection will not solve the problem. What has APC done for most states. It is good that kwara people have woken up from slumber, and have taken charge of their state for the better. You can still remain in whichever party you belong to and vote the wrong people out. I invite some of you to take a page from the only state in the Eastern region that is prospering....good access roads, electricity, water, and most improtanatky security etc...

    From Balewa,Ironsi,Gowon,Murtala,Obasanjo,Shagari,Buhari,Babangida,shonekan,Abacha, AbdulSalam,Obasanjo,Yar'Adua,Jonathan and Buhari.
Check them out and see who helped/hurt Nigerians.
But, some of you are satanic. Ibo doesn't want Hausa to Lead,Yoruba dislike Ibo, Hausa will not want Christian to Lead. Tribes and Religion madness BUNCH OF MORONS

  19. Power belongs to Almighty God and He gives it to whoever He wishes. He gave it to PMB instead of you people to rally round the only exception General,ex Minister,ex Governor,ex Military Head of State with no oil block,no foreign bank account,no house in Abuja, Lagos,UK,USA,Dubai etc.show me any other politician with that kind of CV. You continue to wait and abuse him. Instead of you to support and pray for him to succeed so that the country will succeed. Instead of you to take advantage of go back to the land policy and establish something for yourself you continue to look for government job and wailing. If you want change, that change has to start with me and you. First change our mind set and change our ways of thinking and behaving.

  20. The election is over now. I think the people need to come together and rally behind their elected leaders for good governance and betterment of the populace. You must hold the government accountable to the people. To do so, you must be vigilant. The country will do well. There is a much brighter future for the country. Nigerians are very hardworking, smart and resilient people. There is nothing we can not do if only we put our minds to it. So please, let us stop abusing ourselves. We are all together in this basket. Let us make it work. With your support, the political leaders will have no choice but do the right thing for the people and the country.
