Centenary Celebration: Christianity At 100 In Igbaja

One hundred years of Christianity in Igbaja: Praising God for His Love yesterday, today and tomorrow

Introduction:

Christianity was introduced to Igbaja about one hundred years ago. One of the sources available to us shows that a businessman from Ijesha land was the first person to preach Christ in Igbaja. Shortly after him, missionaries from Agunjin came in through whom God established the Christian faith. It is difficult at this stage to establish the exact year that Christianity was actually brought into Igbaja. While there are various versions of the advent, it is sufficient at this stage to agree that Christianity gained entry into Igbaja between 1918 and 1920. What is noteworthy is that God, in His infinite mercy, opened up Igbaja to His salvation some one hundred years ago and the light is still aglow. Some of us who are alive today and have tasted of the good news have every reason to roll out the drums in praise to God. We need to renew our resolve that the light of the gospel will shine even brighter now than ever before. God has been so good to Igbaja by sending the missionaries and by being merciful to our patriarchs and Matriarchs. Our fathers and mothers accepted Christian faith just as it is set out in Hebrews 11:
