The Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN) has on Saturday elected Mr Adetipe Abiola as its candidate for the September 22nd governorship election in Osun state.

Abiola was elected through affirmative process, after two other aspirants stepped down for him prior to the primary election of the party.

In his acceptance speech, Abiola thanked the leadership of the party for giving him the opportunity to be the candidate of the party.

He said he would focus on grassroots development, poverty alleviation and provision of adequate security if he eventually won the election.

Abiola also promised to give women 40 percent slots in his administration while 30 percent slots would be given to the youths.

Speaking on the occasion, the South-West Chairman of the party, Mr Olayiwola Olagunju appealed to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a level playing ground for all the parties.

The Chairman of the party in Osun State, Mr Kayode Olowookere said GDPN was ready to contest, win the election and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people, particularly at the grassroots.
